               Doris
                Strand's Birthday:

                December 26
                by
                Gary Skorheim.. 12/2000

                'Twas
                the day after Christmas,
                and all through the house
                Not one gift was remaining,
                not even a blouse.

                The
stockings were left by the chimney..Who cares!
                 The
gifts were all taken by whomever found theirs.
This Christmas had gone well, with hardly a rift,

                And
Doris was looking for just one more gift.

                It's
                her birthday, you all; this good wife and good mother;
So why should her birthday be less than one other?
But love of the family won't long fail our Doris,
                 It's:
"Christmas has left all our pockets quite porous."
We're going to get her good things through the mail,

                But
we'll have to wait 'till we see it's on sale.
Though year after year the story's the same...

                Her
                birthday's quite giftless; it's really a shame.
                To
stop this old pattern, the goal of us all

                Can
we change her birthday to sometime in fall?

                Merry
                Chr- - - - er BIRTHDAY!
                DORIS.
