Advanced Independent 2

Independent status may be granted to individuals who can demonstrate fundamental art knowledge and skills. They must also demonstrate the ability to produce art in a self-directed way.

Second year advanced independence status requires you to plan your own activities and pursuing an area of art that interests you. It means that you have to have clear cut long term, weekly and daily goals.

  • You will not turn in individual projects to be graded.
  • All work will be saved as a portfolio and turned in after 8 weeks.
  • You will be expected to continue with viewing art videos and/or web research once a week to investigate artists and cultures.
  • You will keep a notebook that can be used for written and drawn entries. Make thumbnail idea sketches here and write personal comments about your efforts or the artists you have learned about.
Quality and Content - - Final Grading
You are expected to apply basic knowledge  of art and design more skillfully. Also you will be expected to strive for a higher level of originality in your work. Your work should reflect higher skills than earlier art classes.

Notebook
We want you to continue to grow in knowledge of art, artists and culture. In order to do this some of your time should be given to study and investigation on line or in the library and record your discoveries in a notebook.
Each session of research should have several paragraphs of descriptive commentary.

Creative and Knowledge  Growth
You are expected to show an openness to new ideas.

Sketchbook
Keep any and all simple sketches or thumbnails in a folder or sketchbook. Sketches show an interest in exploring new ideas. They can be a sketch from any source or from your own imagination and ideas.

Sketches can be quite unfinished but have a kernel of a good idea. Ideas are the key. Sketches are experimental and usually evolve from the first images.
