FAIRMOUNT NEWS

Fairmount Community Development group met on Saturday May 15, at 9 am.  News to report Deb Reinig and Clair Jo met with the Richland/Wilkin Healthy Communities Inc..  We presented our application to get under their 501 c3 umbrella.  We presented a brief history of the group and an explanation of the goals of the group.  They are to vote to accept us and another group and we should hear something soon.  If we are accepted we should be able to start writing grants and start working on larger projects for our community.

The FCD group also discussed the White Elephant sale in August.  We will be looking for donations from the community for this auction and all proceeds will go to the FCD group for community projects (i.e. reconditioning houses, community clean up’s, and other positive promotion projects the community would feel strongly about).

The FCD group will hold another fundraiser in the fall.  Plans are going to be made and more information will be given at the next meeting of the FCD group on June 12th.   We will also prepare for the next year with setting up plans for future fish fry’s and Mother’s day dinners.  The FCD group is also working on a cookbook recipes submitted by past and present residents of Fairmount.  They need to be submitted by July 31st.  Submit to Carmen Swanson, Renae Swanson or email to Deb at maddinnd@rrt.net.  You will also need to include a short history of your life.  Example:  Maiden name (if a married woman), year graduated, spouse information, children, occupation and present where abouts.  We would like to have the cookbook ready the summer of 2005 when we have the All School reunion in July.

All concerned citizens of Fairmount that are interested in helping or making POSITIVE suggestions to the group please do so.  It is difficult to pick a meeting time that will provide for all so Saturday mornings work for a good majority of people in the community.  There are people in charge of committees and if you would like to help on a committee you may contact the individuals listed below.

Fund Raising: This group is taking charge of the dinners and white elephant sale.  They have other projects in the works such as a community cookbook (see information above).

Contacts:  Bev Axtman, Jayne Allen, Claire Hermes, Renae Swanson, Vicki Schuster, and Carmen Swanson.

Advertising: This group is focusing on the promotion of Fairmount by getting coverage in the media of the available housing and lots in town.

Contacts: Judie Seavert, Bruce Schumacher, Lynnette Matejcek, and Jayne Allen

First Projects Committee: This group is focusing on both the big and small picture in regards as to what it will take to bring people into town and what needs to be done.  Until we know about grant money we are focusing on the smaller issues and easy fixes for issues (i.e. clean up week).

Contacts : Arlen Spear, Deb Reinig, Scott Meyer, Jon Nelk, Jon Schuster, and Jayne Allen.

Grant writing committee: Once the FCD groups decides in what direction to go the grant writing committee will have to work on the availability of grants, budget demands, etc…

Contacts: Claire Jo Althoff, Bruce Schumacher, Deb Reinig, Jon Nelk, Lynnette Matejcek, and Scott Meyer.

CHILD CARE OPEN  Call Pam Meyer at 701-474-5431.  Drop-in’s welcome, CPR certified and first Aid.

QUOTE FOR THE DAY

A graduation ceremony is an event where the commencement speaker tells thousands of students dressed in identical caps and gowns that 'individuality' is the key to success.  ~Robert Orben
