Development group met on Oct. 3rd at 9 am at the Community Center. One item on the agenda has been the Habitat for Humanity House. A group of individuals from the FCDG have been working with the Breckenridge chapter of the Habitat project. The FCDG has acquired land and the Breckenridge Habitat project has a house. Horizon Milling will be combining efforts with the Cargill corn plant in Wahpeton for some financial aid and person-power for this project. This project is now in the works to be the spring project for the Breckenridge Habitat project. Once all things are a go on this project we will be needing volunteers and groups from the local churches to get involved. Item two: There will be a pork loin dinner on Oct. 31st from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. There will be a raffle for a gun, or $100. 00 in cash, or a $50.00 gift certificate to the locker or a $50.00 gift certificate to Cenex. This raffle will be drawn at the end of the dinner. Tickets should be available starting on Wed. Oct. 6th. On this same day there will be the Second Annual Fairmount Fright Fest. Come in costume or just come to watch the kids have fun. There will be many games, a cake walk , bingo and crafts. Item 3: The All School Reunion planning for the 4th of July weekend of 2005 is progressing well. Food will be provided by Nancy B's and there will be many activities and entertainment provided for all ages. The FCDG have been making Apple pies to sell as a fundraiser to finance the All School Reunion. They are made and all you have to do is put them in the oven and bake them. Next meeting is 10-16 9 am. the Fairmount community and it is very under-used. Go to the site and
look around. There is information about different organizations on the
site and the different churches are listed with service times and information.
On the Fairmount Community
web there is also a guest book which anyone can use to list an item for
sale, ask a question or announce an event.

Elbert Hubbard Inside this issue: Volume 1, Issue 1 The FCDG also funded a Hole in One Golf outing at the Fairmount Golf Course. You were able to try for a prize and have a steak supper. Even though it was very cold everyone had fun and enjoyed the meal. The last item is the White Elephant and consignment sale in January 2005. The money we are trying to raise with this event is to help defray costs of the Habitat house (if needed). We are also looking at refurbishing an older house so we can attract potential residents to the Fairmount community. The next meeting of the FCDG will be Oct. 16th at 9 am at the community center. We will be re-organizing so please come and join us and find out what it's all about. News from the Office of the Fairmount Public School. · There will be no school on Thursday and Friday of this coming week (10/7 and 10/8). The faculty will be attending the International Reading Association Conference in Bismark. · The PSAT test will be given on Oct. 13th at school. Make sure to turn in your test fees if you have not done so. The test will take approx. 2 1/2 hours to complete. · 5th and 6th grade girls basketball starts Oct. 11. Please sign up in the office. · The annual standardized test, the ND Standardized Assessment , will be given to grades 3-8 beginning Oct. 25 through Nov. 12. Not all grades will be testing the same week. It is very difficult to make up · these tests, so it is asked that you do not make any appointments for your child during this period in the morning. Public School News 3 tablespoons butter 1 onion, chopped 1 large potato, peeled and diced 1 bay leaf 1/2 teaspoon dried sage 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 cups chicken stock 1 1/2 cups milk 1 1/2 cups frozen corn kernels 2 tablespoons chopped parsley 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives 1/4 cup dry white wine 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese Salt and pepper to taste Directions 1 In a large saucepan over medium high heat, melt the butter and stir in the onion, potato, bay leaf, cumin, and sage. Sauté about 5 minutes, until the onion is tender. Mix in the flour, coating the onion and potato. Pour in the 2 chicken stock and milk. Bring to a boil, whisking constantly until smooth. Reduce heat, and simmer 30 minutes, stirring frequently, until the potato is tender. 3 Mix the corn, parsley, chives, and wine into the saucepan, and cook about 5 minutes, until heated through. Remove the bay leaf, and stir in the Cheddar cheese until melted and blended. Season with salt and pepper. 4 Oct. 1st -Apple pies for sale contact Jayne Allen at 474-5429. Orders will also be taken.
