Easy Clay Designs

Textures and patterns are added before the slabs
are joined together for many of these designs.
Slip, clay mixed with water, is used to
insure that pieces join securely  together.
The project designs below
do not have to be very large.
Sometimes  miniatures are fine.. .6 inches or less.
  
Below: Foot is a joined belt --
Decorate slabs before joining.
Body is single slab that is folded and formed
Connect foot using slip.
The Coil Method added to flat slab elements.
Uses roll up "snakes" of clay to form pattern.
Be sure to use slip to insure solid joins.
 
Below: 3-Sided design
3 Sided-Base Shape
Decorated each of 3 Sides
Add slip with brush.
Cut shapes for foot.
 
 
Add fragments or flakes of clay
Make layers of brick-like rows

Use slip mortar between each "brick"
Begin with flat base.
Add top and bottom slab elements.
The scraps of clay make the "design".
 
 

 
 Below:
This body is made from 1 slab folded into a pocket.
Imprint, scratch, or stamp design before joining.
Form a belt into an arching foot.
Ornamental handles join with slip.
This does not have to be a large project.
  
 
This is much like #1 on top:
It is lower and has a wide look.
Work on balance of size and support.
Fold ends to form "Box"
appliqué balls make textures.
 
 
 Two slabs form body.
Platform-like shape makes a base.
Support foot can be various heights.
Decorate first. Join with slip and brush.
hint: when clay is too soft you may be able to join foot
with the clay object turned over, (upside down)
